The motion picture is situated in Dehradun in north India.
The film opens with the depiction of the different schools in the city. The
Rajput school has understudies from wealthy foundations with every understudy
being a beneficiary to a multimillion fortune. Conversely, the Model school has
understudies from poor neighborhood families. Different schools incorporate
Xaviers school and Queens school, the last being an all-young ladies school
with the gentlemen from every one of the three universities attempting to charm
them.
The highlight of the town is the yearly between school
sports title with a marathon cycle race as the prime occasion. In the first
place of the film, the race is challenged between Ratan Lal Sharma (Mamik
Singh) of Model school and Shekhar Malhotra (Deepak Tijori) of Rajput school
with the recent winning the race in light of the fact that Ratan had a mediocre
bicycle. After the race both are congratulated by their separate schools.
Shekhar being rich and now the nearby champion is presumptuous and egotistical.
Sanju (Aamir Khan) is Ratan's more youthful sibling and is
everything that Ratan is most certainly not. He's a merry young person who is
loaded with himself and is constantly in a bad position with his dad Ramlal
(Kulbhushan Kharbanda) , who needs him to act all the more maturely and get to

meander around town. Anjali and her father run a vehicle repair shop and

Ramlal and his family run a little bistro which is the joint

middle of Sanju and Shekhar in light of Shekhar's endeavors to mortify Ratan
and his father. Enter Devika (Pooja Bedi), who instantly gets the extravagant
of both Sanju and Shekhar. At first she inclines towards Shekhar however one

Sanju approaches Anjali for an auto so he can wander around town. While on his
way he spots Devika and leaves his companions at the paan shop and gives Devika
a lift. Devika after arriving at her destination discovers Shekhar with an
alternate young lady and obliges Sanju who, albeit not rich, gloats about his
riches.
Sanju's untruth is eventually uncovered when Devika sees him
moving in the Model school gathering amid a move rivalry. After the show, Sanju
and Devika separation that night and in warmed contention, Sanju battles with
Shekhar's companions. Sanju is very nearly overwhelmed when his sibling
mediates and pursues Shekhar's companions away. Ramlal approaches Sanju for the
cash he had offered him to store in the bank (which he spent on Devika) which
prompts a warmed contention in the middle of Sanju and his father and Sanju
goes out
Next morning, Ramlal leaves for town and Ratan is out
cycling.While striving for cycling Ratan tells Sanju that his Dad has excused
him and requested that he return home which Sanju, in displeasure tackles hard
of hearing ears. A warmed contention and battle follow in the middle of Ratan
and Shekhar, which end in disaster when Ratan unintentionally tumbles off a
bluff. While Ratan is in healing facility, Sanju recalls his adolescence with
Ratan. At the point when his dad returns, he accommodates with him. With Ratan
in the healing center, Sanju gets to be more dependable and begins to
administer to his dad and out of commission sibling. He concludes that he will take
part in the race with the assistance of Anjali and provide for it his best for
Ratan. Amid his preparation, he understands his actual affections for Anjali
and the two acknowledge one another.
A day prior to the race, Sanju gets some answers concerning
the genuine reason for the mishap and faces Ratan who lets him know that he
didn't say anything on the grounds that Sanju had ended up capable and closer
to every one of them. Ratan asks Sanju to give his best in the race in the

With his new cycle, Sanju takes part in the race. The race
starts uniformly with both Sanju and Shekhar clashing. Some place in the

his companions. Amid this, different cyclists lead the pack. Shekhar heads once
again on track with his companions keeping Sanju down. Sanju breaks free and
joins the race, finding up with Shekhar amid the last laps of the race lastly
beating him in the end minutes, giving Model school, his dad & sibling
their hotly anticipated triumph.
The plot has notable similitudes to the 1979 American film
Breaking Away.
